Courses overview

Soniquete

José Luis Dominguez
MABO - Lycée Maria-Boodschap - Rue de la Braie 22, 1000 Bruxelles

For several years, Muziekpublique has offered flamenco guitar courses led by Antonio Segura, for students of various levels who wish to deepen their technique, repertoire, and understanding of flamenco art.

To enrich this educational offering and open up new musical perspectives, two optional modules will be available starting January 2026. One of these optional courses, Flamenco Harmony, will be taught by Antonio Segura, and the other, Soniquete, by José Luis Dominguez.

As a flamenco guitar student, you can enroll in one or both optional modules. It is also possible to register for one or both optional modules without attending the flamenco guitar course.

SONIQUETE COURSE

Objective

Deepen your rhythmic practice of compás and develop ‘el aire’ in the accompaniment of singing and dancing. ‘El aire’ in flamenco is the expressive, stylistic quality that brings compás to life. It allows singers and dancers to breathe, express themselves freely, and play with accents, tension, and dynamics. In this way, precise rhythm transforms into a vibrant, sensitive interaction that amplifies the emotion and personality of flamenco.

Content

  • Study of traditional rhythmic patterns
  • Variations and phrasing to enrich accompaniment
  • Group work focused on interpretation and rhythmic sensitivity

Format

5 sessions per cycle (1 hour each, total 5 hours), alternating with the Flamenco Harmony course led by Antonio Segura.

This course is intended for advanced students of the flamenco guitar course or individuals with an advanced level of proficiency.
