Biharayto (2025)

With Biharayto, which means ‘in the end’ or ‘finally’ in Aramaic, oud player Elias Bachoura makes his mark as a soloist. Over time, Elias has developed a rich experience with oriental and western music. The subtlety, expressiveness and originality of his playing make him a musician of reference today.
Through eight personal compositions, Elias paints a world in which oriental and western music mix together between modal, tonal and atonal styles. His melodies range from profound maqams to complex compositions. Elias expresses himself in a personal style in which, as well as the Syrian tradition of Damascus, the music of his eminent teachers Askar Alikbirof (Azerbaijan) and Munir Bashir (Iraq) resonates with the classical western training he received from Professor Daniela Capelleti (Belgium).

According to Elias, true art is transcendental; it elevates intelligence and the spirit. His music does not serve any cause, be it political, societal or ideological. His only cause is humanity – arousing emotions, dialoguing with the mind and uniting with one’s soul. His music only serves truth and beauty. And if truth were a god, art would be the prophet.
