Queimada : Trio Tourbillon, Muziekpublique Balfolk ensemble, Arbadétorne

Folk ball
Saturday 18 May 2019 - 19h00
Maison du Peuple de St-Gilles - 37 Parvis de St-Gilles, 1060 St-Gilles
SAT 18/05

During this last Queimada (folk ball) of the season we will celebrate Muziekpublique Folk Ball’s fifth birthday.  You’ll discover the brand new Trio Tourbillon, followed by the French group Arbadétourne, bringing us the best from the Vendée region.  Of course, we promise you a initiation to the dance, led by our Frisse Folk partner. A Contrabanda, a traditional Galician bagpipe group, will accompany the preparation of the divine beverage rite, the Queimada.

The Folk Ball Ensemble, from Muziekpublique’s world music school, is five years old!  Directed by Jonas Malfliet and Rebecca Van Bogaert, the 15 musicians have become a group of close friends, presenting a rich repertoire. With flutes, accordions, hurdy-gurdies, guitars, mandolines, ‘cellos and fiddles they propose a large panel of classical folk tunes in which you’ll find, among other surprises, the traditional “bourrées”, jigs, scottish dances, mazurkas and waltzes. You’ll also rediscover catchy tunes with original arrangements.

As openers you’ll experience the Trio Tourbillon, made up of instructors Jonas Malfliet, Rebecca van Bogaert and Dutch guitarist Mike Floris. Solid guitar and accordion rhythms, swinging melodies and a bit of improvisation will make your body and mind dance, in a ring of like-minded people.

The three energy-laden musicians of the Arbadétorne group will make you travel through the traditional music from the Vendée region.  These professional musicians, storytellers, singers and dancers mix, knead and refine yesterday’s history into the colors of today.  Let yourself be swept away into a universe of songs which lead the rings, sustained by the humming of the fiddle, the swaying of the accordion and the infernal rhythms of the guitar.
