Gaita (Galician bagpipes)
The gaita galega may in fact be seen as a kind of compromise between the softer sound of the northern bagpipes and the more powerful tone of the Scottish and Asturian bagpipes. Thanks to Carlos Nuñez, Susana Seivane and others the instrument has come to be well known to us in recent years.
Our teacher Raphael De Cock will teach you the basics of the instrument, first through exercises using the chanter and then progressing to the gaita. Once the basics are under your belt you can begin an interesting journey through the extensive repertoire of Galician music with such rhythms as the muiñeira, jota, rumba, pasodoble…
Advanced learners will learn to play the repertoire of A Contrabanda. After their lesson they can join in this group’s weekly rehearsal.
3 study instruments can be rented (50 euro rent/cycle (150 euro for the whole school year) + 100 euro deposit)
