Flamenco Guitar
the course
Following the flamenco tradition, the classes will take place in groups. Students will be assigned to one of the groups according to their level of playing (from beginners to advanced level). Individual classes are also possible.
The students will learn different techniques (rasgueados, picado, pulgar, alzapua, arpegios, tremolo) and they will be familiarized with the different flamenco styles, such as Alegrias, Solea, Bulerias, Tangos, Fandangos de Huelva, Taranta, Granaina…
Throughout the programme, the students will be prepared to perform at the End of Season concert.
The most advanced guitarists will also learn how to do guitar accompaniment for flamenco singers, for which singers will join the classes.
Instrument: classical guitar with nylon strings, (video)recording device (smartphone, tablet, camera, …)
Music theory required? No. Music will be written out in tablatures.
Antonio Segura started playing the guitar at 11 years old in his home town Sevilla and learned from some of the greats of the flamenco guitar, such as Isidoro Carmona, Mario Escudero, Pedro Escalona, Paquito Fernandez…He is co-initiator of various musical collectives (Yerba Guena, Faena, Macande) and as such, he took part in many international tours.
He studied at the Antwerp Jazzstudio where he specialized in music theory, harmony and arrangement. As a composer he wrote music for a range of theatrical plays and for the Macanda album ‘Y lo que nos queda’.
Furthermore, he often performs as a session musician for a great deal of recordings.
Antonio Segura has been teaching the flamenco guitar for more than 10 years. He is widely praised in Belgium for his pedagogic approach and his deep knowledge of this art form.
