The Chaussée d’Haecht / Haachtsesteenweg in Schaarbeek is the epicentre of the Turkish community in Brussels. Their cafés and restaurants are mainly located in the area near the Botanique (Botanical Gardens). Here, beyond Rogier and closer to Schaarbeek’s town hall, there are mainly smaller local shops. However this neighbourhood also contains silent witnesses to the grandeur of Schaerbeek at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century: broad avenues, and Victor Horta’s first mansion, the Maison Autrique (1893). The School architects Henri Jacobs and Gustave Strauven also delivered beautiful art nouveau buildings. None the less you can still find here and there some remnants of the simple village that Schaarbeek once was.
Practicalities These guided tours are organised by Brukselbinnenstebuiten, so they take place outside and focus on the neighbourhood around a location in the programme. You can take the tour in French or Dutch and English. As they start at 4:30 pm and end at 6 pm, they can easily be combined with the first session of the concert at the same venue. For organisational reasons, we sell tickets for these two events separately.
Note This tour is organised just before the concert of Amel Sediri & Moufadhel Adhoum at the Maison Autrique. Click here to buy tickets for this concert and thus combine the two activities.
