Kayhan Kalhor & Kiya Tabassian (Iran)

Great soloists in Persian music
Wednesday 17 October 2018 - 20h00
Molière Theatre - Galerie de la Porte de Namur, 3 Square du Bastion, 1050 Bruxelles
WED 17/10

Kayhan Kalhor is probably one of the most creative and innovative artists of the current Iranian music scene. Great ambassador of Persian culture, he largely contributed to taking the Persian music repertoire across the world. He recorded more than a dozen albums, four of which were nominated for a Grammy Award. Kayhan Kalhor is internationally famous for his mastering of the four-stringed kamancheh, a Persian bowed string instrument. He refined and expanded the techniques and developed the sound of the instrument. He also composes and plays music at the side of western masters such as Yo-Yo Ma and the Kronos Quartet, as well as at the side of great Iranian artists, such as Mohammad Reza Shajarian and Sharam Nazeri or with great masters from other traditions, such as the Turk Erdal Erzincan or Malinese Toumani Diabate. Kalhor is the voice from Teheran that transposes humanism into deep sounds.

For this concert he will be playing with his fellow countryman and virtuoso seta-player Kiya Tabassian, who has been for years a founding member and driving force of the ensemble Constantinople and knows how to bring the universal force of music in our hearts. A refined concert full of inspiration that will be showing fast-changing traditional Persian music.
