Carnatic Singing
THE COURSE
Step into the world of Carnatic music, the classical music tradition of South India, with instructor Uma Ramakrishnan. This course offers a warm and approachable introduction to one of the oldest and most rich musical systems in the world. Starting from September 2026, the teacher will open a 2nd class for students with an intermediate level.
During this course, you’ll explore the basic building blocks of Carnatic music, including how melodies and rhythms are structured. You’ll learn about the unique sounds that make this music so expressive, such as the use of gamakas—musical ornamentations that bring the notes to life. We’ll also get to know the traditional instruments used in Carnatic performances, and hear stories about some of the great composers who shaped this art form.
No prior experience is needed—just bring your curiosity and a love for music. This session is a welcoming first step into the fascinating world of South Indian classical music.
