International Tango Day is celebrated everywhere on December 11. December 11 honors two important figures of Argentine music: tango singer Carlos Gardel and composer Julio de Caro.   Both are responsible for tango’s international renown and have contributed to the development of the genre throughout the years.

In order to join this world event, and also to celebrate the centennial of Astor Piazzolla’s birth, the Astoria Ensemble proposes a repertoire that perpetuates the heritage of the Argentinian composer and honors the musician who revolutionized the tango. While highlighting the quality of the Argentinian master, the Ensemble preserves the rhythmic and melodic witchcraft of the original melodies.

The Ensemble is made up of between four and ten musicians, all Royal Conservatory graduates, winners of international prizes or members of large orchestras. It imposes its identity through the energy, the rigor and the emotion of its musical interpretation. To top it off, the presentation includes the talented duo of Dante and Monik Dominguez, dancers and choreographers, renowned for their style and their profound interpretation. (By the way, the couple also teaches in our academy.)

Astoria’s music is lively, vibrant. It speaks about love, pain, hope and melancholy. The Ensemble will carry you away in a maelstrom of sensations, around the timeless oeuvre of Astor Piazzolla.
