Queimada Folk Bal
Saturday 7 November 2026 - 19h00
Maison du Peuple de St-Gilles - 37 Parvis de St-Gilles, 1060 St-Gilles
SAT 07/11

Get ready for a top-tier queimada (bal folk) featuring no fewer than 4 acts! We will kick off the evening with an introductory dance workshop hosted by our partner Frisse Folk, after which the young accordionist Pepijn De Pauw will be the first to get you moving. Once your legs are warmed up, the a cappella duo Lavoà Lapò will treat us to an Occitan bal. Next comes the ceremonial preparation of the traditional Galician drink queimada, accompanied by the bagpipe ensemble A Contrabanda. We will conclude the evening with the French folk duo Supernovas.

Young diatonic accordionist Pepijn De Pauw plays in bands such as Drøn and Mobilette, but this time he is heading to Brussels for a 30-minute solo set.

Duò Lavoà Lapò revives the Occitan repertoire with energy and passion. Damien Toumi and Manu Théron (well known from Lo Cor de la Plana) bring back forgotten classics as well as songs recognized throughout the lands of the langue d’oc, spicing them up with witty, powerful, and refreshing twists. Through vocal and rhythmic playfulness, they enthusiastically blend polyphonic singing with mesmerizing trance. Especially for this queimada, they will be performing an exclusive bal repertoire.

The bal folk duo Supernovas, formed by brothers Julien and Nans Casanovas on violin and guitar, delivers an explosive blend of tradition and modernity. Their music celebrates life in all its facets: sometimes fierce and tragic, at other times serene, but always steeped in intense power and virtuosity. Driven by a captivating dynamic, they bridge the gap between past and present, launching every dance floor into orbit. Their astonishing rhythmic and melodic synergy invites you to move, shine, and live life to the fullest. With Supernovas, standing still is not an option—it is an invitation to set the dance floor alight together.
