The first Queimada of the year promises to be a great vintage! As usual, we will start the evening with an introduction to dance led by our partner Frisse Folk. This will be followed by two of the big names in folk dances – Dani Padpe and Caamaño & Ameixeiras – who will set the Maison du Peuple on fire. During the interval, there will be the famous ritual ceremony of the magic drink ‘Queimada’, prepared by our mysterious druid and accompanied by our Galician bagpipe band A Contrabanda, as tradition demands.
Dani Padpe – the stage name of Daniel Detammaecker – is one of our favourite folk artists from the south of France. Known from groups such as Clica Drona and Nhac, of which he is a member, Padpe will be performing solo this time. Armed with his harmonica, percussion and vocals, he will devote himself entirely to the dance and to his audience. With plenty of improvisation and surprise, he will gradually lead the dancers into a trance.
The Galician duo Caamaño & Ameixeiras has recently conquered the dance scene in our country and in France. Sabela Caamaño and Antía Ameixeiras have been playing the music for traditional Galician dances since 2018, but in their own way, with chromatic accordion and violin. With tradition as their ever-changing starting point, they create their own language and personal intimate compositions. Their debut album Aire! consists of an instrumental repertoire which some very carefully chosen vocal themes are also interwoven.
Musicians:
– Dani Padpe: vocals, harmonica, percussion
– Sabela Caamaño: chromatic accordion
– Antía Ameixeiras: violin, vocals
