The Bal & Basta is back for a Sunday ball in one of De Pianofrabriek’s halls!
Formed in 2010, the Pilartz-Gielen Duo brings together two Belgian musicians passionate about traditional music. In a repertoire sometimes traditional, sometimes from personal compositions or musical friends, Luc Pilartz, violin, and Simon Gielen, diatonic accordion, have a talent to dance waltzes, mazurkas, jigs, andros, bourrées and other rondeaux … Their music sometimes buzzing, sometimes on the edge of the Baroque and most often very “roots” is a sumptuous blend of energy, poetry and ‘joie de vivre’.
Musicians but also dancers, the trio of Shillelagh was born from the meeting of three Lille enthusiasts. Gabriel Lenoir on violin, Aurélien Tanghe on guitar and Benjamin Macke on diatonic accordion have created their own musical universe, generous and convivial, to captivate dancers to enter the round. Their repertoire is a mixture of dances from French Flanders (Horlepiep, Pieternelle, Schommelwals, Mazurka van Hofstade, …) and dances from a larger area (bourrée, circle, waltz, Scottish, …). Together, they create a festive and timeless atmosphere that carries the movement and enchants spectators and dancers.
Bal & Basta is organized by Frisse Folk and Muziekpublique, in collaboration with De Pianofabriek, with the support of the department of Dutch-speaking affairs of the Commune of Saint-Gilles.
