SAT 29/04

The Queimada is one of the highlights of our programme. This folk dance is all about meeting and dance. Following a dance initiation at the start of the evening the French group Les Zéoles will host an “accordion dance” before giving way to the ritual drinking of the queimada accompanied by A Contrabanda. The finale is provided by the French-Senegalese dance music of Sons Libres.

Les Zéoles was formed by two French accordionists, Anne Guinot on chromatic accordion, whom we shall see again later in the evening, and Amélie Denarlé on diatonic accordion. Both come from Paris and have been performing together as a duo since 2008. They play refined dance music, equally suited to both dancing and listening, as is demonstrated by their latest CD “Urban Rhapsodie”, and by well-received previous visits to our country.

Sons Libres is a French-Senegalese neo-trad duo formed in 2005 by Adama Diop, percussionist and singer, and Anne Guinot, chromatic accordion. Their joy in sharing their origins and their love of music has led them to put together an extensive repertoire of dance music. Via bourrées sung in the Wolof language and traditional fishermen’s songs from Dakar played on the accordion their multicultural melodies played with inexhaustible energy invite us to join them an a journey of musical exploration.
