Tuesday 22 May 2018 - 19h00
Molière Theatre - Galerie de la Porte de Namur, 3 Square du Bastion, 1050 Bruxelles
TUE 22/05

The Belgian WorldMusicNetwork will organize the first encounter of world musics the day after the «Journée mondiale de la diversité culturelle pour le dialogue et le développement» (“World Day of Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development”.)  The evening will provide the chance to discover several groups which reflect the diversity of existing musics in Belgium.

Tamala signifies “travelers” and that’s precisely what the Senegalese griots Bao Sissoko (kora) and Mola Sylla (song, hoddu), as well as the violinist Vandenabeele are:  three curious explorers who wander among instruments and songs, the North and the South, tradition and innovation, strength and subtility, dream and reality.  Their first CD, which came out last Fall, brought them the Klara «best album world – Belgium» award in the the Flemish-speaking part of the country, as well as the “world music” Octave music award in the French-speaking part of Belgium.

Drawing from the Flemish XVIIIth century dance repertoire, WÖR discovers a new energy, rejuvenating traditions with a resolutely modern breath!  WÖR’s music is characterized by a contagious groove, a sustained tempo on the guitar and the sax baryton.  Fabio Di MEO (baryton & soprano saxophones), Bert Ruymbeek (accordion), Jeroen Galati (violin), Peter van Vivivo (bagpipes, musette and soprano saxophones) and Jonas S. N (guitar) propose a fresh vision of the past with folk, jazz, classic or rock accents.

The name Seyir, which in Arab means ‘voyage’ or ‘road’, announces right away the trio’s intention.  Passionate about the richness of classical ottoman music, the three musicians join instruments in their approach of a repertoire they know well.  Oud, violin and oriental percussion find a path to a strong identity, imprinted in the profound respect for the music they have been transmitted.  Each member of the Seyir trio performs his solo with great attention, all the while embracing rhythms and melodies within a new approach to classical ottoman music.

Marockin’Brass displaces Brussels to the Mediterranean shores.  The group’s music is the result of a long love story of the production company Met-X with a profound analysis of North African rhythms, to which are added melodies entrenched in jazz and contemporary music.  Let yourself be swept away by its explosif shaabi-funk and the inebriating sounds of the gwana music’s krakebs!
