Since returning to his native England after a long stay in the United States, folk legend Martin Simpson has undoubtedly reached his highest level. During this period he was nominated no less than 32 (!) times for the BBC Radio 2 ‘folk awards’ and was voted ‘British Folk Musician of the Year’ on several occasions. Martin Simpson is considered one of the best « slide & finger pickers » guitarists in the world.
But this guitarist par excellence is much more than that ! An exceptional interpreter of English ballads and African-American classics, he puts these delicate melodies at the service of singing. For years, he has accompanied June Tabor, played with Martin Carthy, Steeleye Span, Christy Moore, Jackson Browne and even with the figurehead of Los Lobos, David Hidalgo, to finally develop solo vocals and guitar. Simpson plays his songs, so to speak, with an intensity that heightens the drama. In the words of the Guardian, “One of the virtuoso instrumentalists of the English music scene”.
