Las Lloronas

When World music meets Slam poetry

Only 5 years ago, the trio Las Lloronas were working on their first album, Soaked. Since then, the group has released a second album, Out of the Blue, and played hundreds of concerts in Europe and beyond. The group even won the award for ‘Outstanding live performance’ at the Belgian Worldwide Music Awards 2024. With Sura Solomon having decided to take time out to develop other projects, the trio has evolved into a duo. Marieke Werner and Amber in ‘t Veld carry on with the typical ingredients of Las lloronas: beautiful polyphonic voices, influences from many musical traditions and poetic, powerful multilingual lyrics.

Las Lloronas’ performance is often described as highly original, yet their music also has a timeless quality: it goes under your skin, it is emotionally raw and ravishing, something to be found in many folk traditions, such as Klezmer, Flamenco or Blues. Still accompanied by guitar and clarinet, they create a unique musical universe far from genre codes. Inspired by musicians such as Lhasa de Sela, Akua Naru, Giora Feidman, Chavela Vargas and Rodrigo Amarante, they create a delicious polyphonic symbiosis that can only be described as « Las Lloronas ».
