BalKaniC Jam Session, Bal & Basta! – Les Bottines Artistiques & Snaarmaarwaar, Mari Kalkun | Las Lloronas and Bal folk Queimada : Airboxes, Hoctomoz, A Contrabanda

After analysing of our future events and in the spirit of civic responsibility, we have decided to cancel the activities where we believe there is too high a risk of spreading the coronavirus. Today’s Balkanic Jam Session (Thursday 12 March) will be postponed, the date still to be confirmed. The folk balls Bal & Basta! (Sunday 15 March) and Queimada (Saturday 21 March) will also be cancelled because it is impossible to achieve the desired ‘social distancing’ at these events. In consultation with the artists, we decided to also postpone tomorrow’s concert (Friday 13 March) with Mari Kalkun | Las Lloronas to a later date.
We have every sympathy for the disappointment this undoubtedly causes the audience. The cancellations have a major emotional and financial impact on both the artists and the organizers who are faced with numerous cancellations. We are therefore making a warm appeal for solidarity and invite you not to ask for a refund so that we can partially cover the costs incurred and current and future loss of income. If you choose to be reimbursed, fully or partially, we will of course respect that. Thank you for your understanding,

Get some dance experience during the first Bal & Basta of 2020 with the two great bands Les Bottines Artistiques and Snaarmaarwaar!

The violinist Pavel Souvandjev and the accordionist Guus Herremans of Les Bottines Artistiques present a dynamic and refined bal folk. The French and Italian playing technique of Guus and Pavel’s Bulgarian roots result in a surprising musical palette, which allowed them to already give numerous performances in Belgium and abroad.

Snaarmaarwaar is an adventurous power folk trio that navigates on the cutting line of old and new folk. You will see a trio, but what you will hear instead is an explosive sextet on speed that make their acoustic instruments roar effortlessly in an impressive wall of sound. Jeroen Geerinck, with his pumping and energetic guitar playing, is the turbo engine of the trio, the cosy twin-seater where mandola-player Maarten Decombel and Ward Dhoore on the mandolin can sit comfortably. Their playing together and interaction is compact, their music to the point and their vision contemporary.

Les Bottines Artistiques
