Kabal (BE/NL), Plume (FR), A Contrabanda
Saturday 16 May 2026 - 19h00
Maison du Peuple de St-Gilles - 37 Parvis de St-Gilles, 1060 St-Gilles
SAT 16/05

On this electrifying queimada night, Muziekpublique invites you to a fiery bal folk brimming with soul and connection. After a dance initiation led by Frisse Folk, let yourself be swept away by the powerful sounds of Kabal and the whirling energy of Plume. Between sets, we’ll gather around the ritual preparation of the magical queimada drink, guided by Galician bagpipe band A Contrabanda.

KABÁL

KABÁL plays contemporary folk music, deeply rooted in the Low Countries. Their original compositions spring from the minds of Katrien Bos & Richard de Waardt,  handcrafted music steeped in love, wonder, experimentation, tradition and movement. Made to be savoured with open ears and dancing feet.

Four seasoned musicians from Flemish Brabant, with roots scattered across the Low Countries, found each other through a shared appetite for melodic grooves and music with a heartbeat as heard on their debut EP Vonk.

Katrien Bos: violin & double bass
Jo Zanders: percussion
Mark van Dal: guitar
Richard de Waardt: accordion

Lume

Lume radiates a raw energy that swirls upward in an enchanting flight, to the rhythm of the erhu’s bow — a traditional Chinese violin — and the gentle melodies of the accordion, melodically and rhythmically supported by guitar.

An original strength, a distinctive timbre, and a remarkable cohesion emanate from this trio with infectious enthusiasm, which keeps the pulse of folk music as its horizon and chooses improvisation as its path of exploration. Together, Li’ang Zhao, Aymerick Tron Alvarez, and Yves Perrin create a dance with an atypical sound, at once powerful and refined.

Aymerick Tron Alvarez: chromatic accordion, stomp box
Li’ang Zhao: erhu (Chinese violin)
Yves Perrin: guitar
