Manäcken
Here’s a little-known slice of history: in the 17th century, thousands of Walloons emigrated to Sweden to develop the metallurgy industry. Three centuries later, Marielle Vancamp and Thibault Debehogne are bringing the musical riches of this story back to life on the dance floor. Their duo Manäcken, a playful nod to Brussels’ Manneken Pis and the Näcken, the spirit of Swedish rivers, brings together the Swedish nyckelharpa and Walloon guitar. Marielle, a jazz violinist and nyckelharpa player, creates a musical conversation with Thibault, a classical guitarist rooted in traditional repertoire.
On the program: Norwegian reinlenders, 5-beat waltzes, and original compositions to keep you dancing late into the night. Join us for an energetic dance party that pays no mind to borders.
Bamako Express
Bamako Express is the Low Countries’ most eclectic folk ensemble. Florian De Schepper and Anouk Sanczuk have brought two exceptional African musicians into their musical journey. Jonathan Dembélé and Joël Diarra weave the folk traditions of the De Schepper-Sanczuk duo together with their Malian and Burkinabé roots. Together, the four create something truly extraordinary: a unique fusion of folk and West African magic.
Come dance to music like you’ve never heard before, where gentle guitar tones blend with deep bass lines, soar alongside violin flights, and collide with the mesmerizing melodies of the balafon. Every instrument plays a vital role here, shaping a sound palette that’s entirely their own.
For one unforgettable evening, let yourself be transported to the streets of Bamako, Mali’s capital, as these talented musicians build bridges between different musical worlds. An enchanting dance celebration that transcends genres and invites you to move.
