In overtone singing, one or more tones resonate with the fundamental tone of the voice, as if one person is singing with two voices. In these workshops, you will explore overtone singing and various styles from throat singing traditions of different regions of the world, such as khöömeï from Tuva and Mongolia, Umngqokolo from South Africa, overtone polyphony, and a tenore singing from Sardinia. You will also discover the different throat singing styles from the Russian-Siberian Republic of Tuva, which borders northeastern Mongolia.

The workshop is conducted by Raphaël De Cock. Raphaël is a multi-instrumentalist and singer of traditional singing styles, and he is involved in various Belgian and international music projects. Additionally, he regularly gives workshops and courses. In 1989, he discovered the Irish bagpipes, the uilleann pipes, and became acquainted with Tuvan throat singing and overtone singing. This marked the beginning of a lifelong quest for musical instruments and vocal timbres.

In this workshop, you will learn about different throat singing techniques. Everyone is warmly welcome!

• Price: €70 for members, €85 for non-members
• What to bring: Recording device (audio and/or video), loose comfortable clothing, drinking water, and possibly writing materials for notes.
