Matheus Donato is a virtuoso of the six-string cavaquinho. The cavaquinho is a string instrument, usually with four strings, that resembles the ukulele and plays a prominent role in Brazilian music, as well as in Portugal and Cape Verde. The rarer six-string variant offers more melodic and harmonic possibilities.
Due to his exceptional musicality, Donato’s star is rising as a composer, sideman, and bandleader. You can find him alongside Yamandu Costa, Kevin Seddiki, or Phillippe Baden Powell. He represents a generation that is open to all cultures.
His knowledge of Choro and Samba is immense, but beyond that, Matheus is also a talented composer and improviser, always seeking inspiration from different sources.
He is part of the new wave of Brazilian musicians who draw from the immense cultural heritage of their country. And since Brazil has always been a crossroads for music from around the world, Matheus integrates these influences into his own music.
