Odd is the electrifying encounter between Slovenian violinist Gaja Sušelj and French cellist Toby Kuhn.
Both passionate about Balkan music and particularly the rich traditions of Bulgaria and North Macedonia, the duo crafts original compositions around dazzling traditional pieces, bursting with virtuosity and asymmetric rhythms—hence the name, “Odd rhythms.”
Their music weaves between fluid pizzicato and melancholic laments, holding the audience in suspense until the very last note. In 2024, Gaja Sušelj and Toby Kuhn released their debut album, simply titled Odd, a deep dive into their eccentric, energetic, and uncompromising world. Whether reimagining traditional gems like Piperkovo Oro—a rhythmic feast shifting between 11/8 and 7/8 time signatures—or presenting their own compositions, Odd infuses every piece with intensity and playfulness.
