3’AIN

3’Ain is a captivating trio that blends contemporary jazz with rich oriental influences. The journey began in 2015 when Yamen moved from Syria to Belgium. There, he met Piet, and their musical connection quickly blossomed. By 2016, they were collaborating on music for a theatre production.

Their synergy led to further collaborations, with Piet inviting Yamen to join his band, Jaune Toujours, as a guest musician. You can hear Yamen’s unique contributions on Jaune Toujours’ latest album, Europeana (2018).

In the summer of 2019, Otto joined their musical dialogue, completing the trio and giving birth to 3’Ain. The name 3’Ain is inspired by the Arabic letter ﻉ‎, the eighteenth in the alphabet, known for being particularly challenging for Westerners to pronounce. In Arabic chats and SMS conversations, it’s often represented as “3” and transliterated as “‘ain,” making 3’Ain a fitting name for this trio, which marries contemporary jazz with an oriental twist.
