This evening showcases the profound influence of women on American roots music. From the soulful melodies of the blues to the spirited rhythms of bluegrass, from the enchanting folk ballads to the infectious energy of country, women have left an indelible mark on all facets of traditional American music. Discover the timeless musical heritage of the United States through the eyes and voices of the women who have shaped American roots music in all its diversity. Tap your feet to the sound of vibrant banjo melodies echoing the legacy of Ola Belle Reed or Lily May Ledford. Janie Rothfield is an American Fiddler and American Old Time Clawhammer banjo player widely recognized for her traditional and inventive style and her award-winning tunes. Belgian-American singer and double bassist Annick Odom performs fresh arrangements on old ballads and fiddle melodies from the Appalachian Mountains. Hilarie Burhans has been playing and teaching her powerful clawhammer banjo style for over 40 years. Guitarist, composer and singer Allan Carr is a top-notch accompanist for these three women.
