The sarod is one of the most fascinating instruments in Indian classical music. Belonging to the lute family, it emits a deep and vibrant sound. It does not have frets but a neck covered with a metal plate which gives the musician a lot of freedom for slides and adding microtonal nuances to the music.
Sougata Roy Chowdhury is considered as one of the most talented emerging Indian classical musicians of his generation. He grew up in the West Bengal region and began training at the age of ten with sarod master Dyanesh Khan, son of the legendary and multi-Grammy nominated Ustad Ali Akbar Khan. Following his footsteps, Chowdhury built an international career. He was a finalist at the prestigious Aga Khan Music Awards. He will be accompanied by tabla player Suman Sarkar from Calcutta, who has played with sitar Nishat Khan, singer Lakshmi Shankar and sarangi player Dhruba Gosh.
