Molière Theatre - Galerie de la Porte de Namur, 3 Square du Bastion, 1050 Bruxelles
THU 06/04

We are sorry to inform you that Ludovic Sirtaine will not be able to perform the session scheduled for April 6. We tried to propose a replacement speaker, but it was not possible. We thank you for your interest and hope to see you for the session on June 8th.

Being a sound engineer and musician, Ludovic Sirtaine has worked with artists such as Habib Koité, Aboubakar Traoré, and Kaito Wintse. He travels regularly to Africa, where he transmits his know-how and works for multiple festivals. Ludovic Sirtaine works toward the visibility of Loulanguists by recording them and conducting interviews.

During this session, he will offer a presentation of musical traditions intimately that are linked to the peoples of Kivu. He will talk about griots and their major role in conversation, the transmission of cultural values and inter-ethnic peace. He will also address the challenges related to their survival and how the cultural heritage is being preserved. Instruments used such as lulanga or likembe will also be mentioned.

In a warm atmosphere, gathered around the tables in the “foyer” (bar) of the Molière Theater, the ICTM Talks are a cycle of lessons on six different musical traditions and the culture from which they come. Each of the six sessions will be devoted to a different music style, as well as the repertoire and the territorial grounds associated with it. They will be presented by specialists from the world of the arts, the academicals field or enthusiasts of the specific type of music.
