The oud player Moufadhel Adhoum was born in a working class neighborhood in the Tunisian Medina, an artists’ district considered the cradle of the country’s music. It is thus no surprise that aged 12 he was initiated into the art of oud by the Arab grandmaster Mr. Abderrahmane El Mehdi. In Belgium, he met the singer Ghalia Benali, with whom he soon began working and arranging, a rich collaboration that has lasted through the years and is still going strong today. At Ghalia’s right hand he performed on prestigious stages both in Belgium and abroad. Meanwhile, Adhoum also worked on other projects: first with Hijaz, in which he flirted with jazz, and recently with the Moufadhel Ensemble, in which his beautiful compositions and his musical openness have come together. The Ensemble is planning its premiere, and this solo concert by Adhoum will lift the veil on several new compositions soon to be recorded with the Ensemble.
