SOLD OUT - Omar Pene (Senegal): presentation of the album “Climate”

Opening act: Fidia Samba
Saturday 26 March 2022 - 20h00
Molière Theatre - Galerie de la Porte de Namur, 3 Square du Bastion, 1050 Bruxelles
SAT 26/03

Omar Pene is one of the leading representatives of Senegalese music just like Youssou N’Dour and Baaba Maal. Originally, he did not aspire to pursue a career in music and rather dreamed of becoming a football player. However, in 1972, when Baïla Diagne was looking for a singer for her group, the young Omar Pène joined the Kadd Orchestra. Later on, the Kadd Orchestra merged with other groups from the Dakar scene, giving birth to the legendary Super Diamono. With his mellifluous voice and rich sounds mixing traditional mbalax, blues, jazz and even Latin music, Omar Pene has become a well-known trademark for Senegalese music.

In addition to his musical career, Omar Pene is also a committed and involved person. By addressing the major issues of our time, such as poverty, human rights or the climate crisis, his newest album Climat indeed is a continuation of his activism. The legendary artist thus also stands out as a spearhead in the fight against climate change.

The concert will start with a performance from the young Belgian-Senegalese artist Fidia Samba.
