Antonio Castrignanò
is a tambourine player and singer rooted in Salento’s musical culture, combining raw energy and pure emotion while moving from gentle chanting to the explosive rhythm of the Pizzica Tarantata. Antonio is a symbol of music among the people of Salento. Main voice and tambourine of the Notte del la Taranta Ensemble, has performed, collaborated and shared the stage with many important artists such as Stewart Copeland (The Police), Mauro Pagani, Trilok Gurtu, Negramaro, Ludovico Einaudi, Vinicio Capossela. He has performed live with his own ensemble in USA, China, India, Jordan, France, Ireland, Portugal, Spain, Greece, Bulgaria, Germany, Austria.
He is also the author of the soundtrack of the film “Golden Door”
directed by Emanuele Crialese (Silver Lion – Venice Film Festival 2006).
His album “Fomenta”, produced by the turkish Dj Mercan Dede, represents a new and crucial step in his career. This work is a mixture of traditional music from Salento, dervish grooves and electronical sounds.
