SOLD OUT - Queimada: Trio 14 (BE), Bargainatt (FR), A Contrabanda

Folk ball
Saturday 18 November 2017 - 19h00
Maison du Peuple de St-Gilles - 37 Parvis de St-Gilles, 1060 St-Gilles
SAT 18/11

This folk ball will revolve around the sounds of the fiddle. With Bargainatt we are delighted to bring one of the finest young dance groups from France to our country and the equally young Belgian Trio 14 will be presenting their first CD. Between these two dance sessions the Gallician bagpipe group A Contrabanda will accompany the preparation of the magical potion which is the quiemada. Before all that, we will start the evening with a dance initiation presented by Frisse Folk.

Since taking their first steps at the Eghezée Academy as part of the group Arcamuse, Julien Maréchal (fiddle), Simon Woolfs (fiddle) and Thibault Debehogne (guitar) have now been playing together for almost three years as Trio 14. With a repertoire of dances from France, Belgium and from across the English Channel they have established themselves as one of the best young dance groups in Wallonia as is amply demonstrated on the album which they will be presenting.

Whilst a druid prepares the quiemada, the Gallician drink of the gods, the banda de gaitas A Contrabanda will regale us with dances from the north of Spain such as the jota, the muiñeira and the paso doble before making way for Bargainatt, a young French group whose reputation has preceded them. Like Trio 14 the four musicians who make up Bargainatt play dances with their roots in the European repertoire which they embellish with fresh arrangements drawn from the classical training of the string players and the accordionist’s jazz background. With self-penned compositions and reworked traditionals they are guaranteed to set the dance-floor alight.

Bargainatt consists of:

- Youmi Bazoge : fiddle, vocals
- Léon Ollivier : diatonic accordion
- Camille Stimbre : fiddle
- Noé Bazoge : cello
