On Saturday evening the Sonamos festival is presenting a concert by the Venezuelan duo El Tuyero Ilustrado. The basis of their music is the traditional Venezuelan “joropo tuyero”. The cuatro-player Edward Ramírez and the singer/songwriter Rafa Pino combine the joropo music from the central plains (Los Llanos) of Venezuela with the use of the cuatro as lead instrument, instead of the more traditional harp and maracas.
Edgar Ramírez is one of the most sought-after and creative cuatro-players in Venezuela. Rafa Pino is a songwriter, percussionist, singer and producer who has collaborated with innumerable other artistes in Venezuela. He has also written music for films, theatre and dance.
The Sonamos festival closes with La Tregua, a project combining three exceptional South American musicians. Each one of them has pursued an impressive career in folk music, often as accompanist, arranger or musical director with great artistes such as Dino Saluzzi, Paquito de Rivera, Mercedes Sosa, Stéphane Grappelli, Maxime Le Forestier, Patrice Caratini and Quilapayun. South American and Caribbean rhythms, tango and jazz provide the inspiration and the basis for their authentic and refined music. The compositions and arrangements are mainly the work of the three members of this musical adventure themselves.
