Call for artists !

Latin American musicians for Klanken van de Steden
02 July 2026

Do you live in the wider Antwerp or Brussels area, have Latin American roots, and make music that expresses protest, tells stories and connects people?

In the spring of 2027, Sounds of the Cities* will be focusing on protest songs in the tradition of the nueva canción, a rich musical movement that originated in Argentina, Chile and Uruguay and continues to resonate to this day. We are bringing together a group of musicians for a residency programme in which a repertoire will be developed and shared, both individually and collectively. Traditional songs may be included, but creating new repertoire is also an option.

What do we offer?

An intensive creative process, both individually and alongside other musicians, resulting in two concerts on 29 and 30 April 2027, one in Antwerp and one in Brussels. A selection of songs created during the residency will also be recorded. In addition, there is the opportunity for individual musicians or duos to give extra performances during the musical walks organised by the Merodefestival or Zoniënklanken.

Who are we looking for?

Singers and musicians with Latin American roots who live in the wider Antwerp or Brussels region and who feel at home with a repertoire that touches on protest, remembrance and solidarity in the style of nueva canción.

Interested, or know someone who might be?

Fill in the form (by Wednesday 16 September 2026 at the latest) or forward this call for applications to fellow musicians. The selected musicians will be contacted in mid-

October. Need more information? Feel free to send an email to jolan@muziekpublique.be
