Son de Madera

@ Stassart House
Saturday 23 August 2025 - 18h30
Stassart House - 34 Rue de Stassart 1050 Brussels
SAT 23/08

Hailing from Veracruz, Mexico, Son de Madera has been bringing the vibrant energy of son jarocho to audiences around the world since 1992. Founded by Ramón Gutiérrez Hernández, the group crafts a unique poetic and sonic experience, breathing new life into this Afro-Mexican tradition through playful experimentation and boundless creativity.

From the World Festival in Taiwan to La Mar de Músicas in Spain and across France and the United States, Son de Madera continues to carry the spirit of son jarocho far beyond its roots. Their performances are steeped in the essence of the fandango, a living tradition where music, song, dance and improvisation come together in joyful communion. For one night only, Stassart House transforms into a village square, where the festive spirit of rural Veracruz gathers everyone, musicians, dancers, singers, families and communities alike.

To close the festival, Son de Madera will bring a joyous whirlwind of celebration to Brussels. Expect infectious rhythms, spontaneous moments and a heartwarming atmosphere that invites everyone to join the party.

Stassart House

Tucked away on Rue de Stassart in Ixelles, this architectural gem has lived many lives. Once a reception hall for the Belgian Colonial Union, then home to the Maison de la Radio, it later became the stage for budding actors from the Royal Conservatory’s theatre department from 1986 to 2020.

Today, the building houses two unique spaces brimming with character and history. First, a majestic theatre with a semi-circular stage, iconic red velvet seats and a graceful balcony. Just beside it, you’ll find a cosy, wood-paneled room that feels like a well-kept secret. A handsome brick fireplace sets the tone, while a vintage bar, full of character and old soul, whispers tales of nights gone by. Above it all, a mezzanine hovers gently, adding just the right touch of old school to this intimate space. A perfect setting for a concert that’s anything but ordinary.
