When a kora appears in a concert programme, it is usually as a solo instrument. But when several koras play together, unexpected harmonies reveal themselves. Every note becomes a nuance, every melody a poem, in this symphony in which the soul of the kora dances with the magic of West African Mandingo. At the request of Bozar and Muziekpublique, Belgian-Guinean kora player N’Faly Kouyaté assembles an international ensemble to browse through the instrument’s core repertoire. Kora music was passed on orally for centuries and was developed on the spot. What secrets that improvisation will reveal is only up to the lucky attendees. What’s more, the concert will be followed by a jam session, open to all!
Kora Days is a collaboration with Muziekpublique and Reset. This concert will take place at Muziekpublique, where the Molière Theatre has welcomed all musical cultures of the world since 2005.
