The Brotto-Lopez Duo and KV Express will be the prime movers of this Queimada, although it will as usual be spurred on by a hefty contribution from A Contrabanda (Galicia) in between. The evening always begins with an introduction to the dances to be performed at the ball: this will be at 19h.
KV Express is one of the most pleasant revelations of the folk scene. The repertoire consists entirely of compositions by Sophie Cavez (Duo Cavez/Montanaro , Camaxe, Dazibao, Ialma, Jeff Caresse, Urban Trad, …) who creates in this way a universe that is at one and the same time powerful, festive and sensitive. The instruments weave in and out of each other in arrangements that get not only your feet but also your ears dancing. KV Express will present its 3rd opus, “Zafon”, with Bo Waterschoot on bass and Jo Zanders on percussion.
After a few slurps of the traditional Queimada, a drink prepared by a druid that brings people together, make way for the overflowing energy of the Brotto Lopez duo! Their unique style is universally acknowledged by everyone, experienced dancers or novices of all kinds. When Cyrille’s effectiveness and virtuoso playing, his way of making people “groove”, his finesse and his precision are allied with Guillaume’s craziness, his unique voice, his roving flutes, his self-mockery and his generous spirit, it all adds up to an explosive cocktail.
The music is well honed, at times sensual, at other times carnal, sometimes charged with emotion and at other moments likely to explode. The repertoire is half-traditional, half made up of original compositions, but wholly achored in an Occitanian territory that is open to modern elements, to the Mediterranean, indeed to the entire world.
