NENA

Wednesday 12 March 2025 - 20h30
At Bénédicte's - Rue du Brochet 68, 1050 Brussels
WED 12/03

NENA moves between Latin New Song, folk, and flamenco rumba. She channels the poetry of legends like Chavela Vargas and Violeta Parra. Her music is raw, fragile, and haunting. Iberian rhythms pulse beneath every note.

Born in Seraing, along the Meuse River, NENA grew up in a family of Spanish political exiles. They called her “the little Pasionaria.” From a young age, she carried the spirit of rebellion in her veins, a fire that grew alongside her creative process. Her writing and compositions are steeped in the rural Spain her grandparents were forced to leave behind and in the scars of migration. From the very first notes, you can almost smell the tortilla, see the bright walls, feel the heat of dried chilli peppers and hear the fierce family debates that shaped her.

Her first solo project, LA RAÍZ (“The Root”), is a journey into her soul. It’s a patchwork of memories, a window into her childhood, a cry from the heart. Between lands, between exile and homecoming, NENA sings of hope. Of small joys. Of a love so fierce it burns like the sun.

On stage, she is joined by Mohamed Dziri on guitar. In this intimate duo, she shares her story with a rare closeness. It feels like a conversation—warm, honest, a bit like being at home. But be warned: NENA might just catch your emotions off guard. From poetic sorrow to pure, unfiltered joy, her intensity leaves a mark that’s impossible to forget.
