JiangTing was born in Inner Mongolia. She began learning the pípa (a traditional Chinese lute) at the age of 4. She graduated at the top of her class and earned a master’s degree from the Central Conservatory of Music. JiangTing has received numerous awards throughout her career, including the Excellence Award for a solo performance at the International Musical Instrument Competition in China. She also won the Grand Prize at the International Concerto Competition for Folk Instruments.
JiangTing’s music reflects the Yi people (an ethnic minority from southern China), the Uyghur people who sing and dance with joy at the arrival of spring, the moon, the passage of seasons, and the mountains. She sensitively portrays nature, from the dampness of mist and raindrops to the wonder of witnessing all creation bloom again in spring.
