Hajda Banda
Białowieża Forest is one of the last primeval forests in Europe. It’s in this vast green expanse, a UNESCO World Heritage site, that the band Hajda Banda/Гайда Банда finds its roots. Their music is inspired by the traditional dances and tunes of eastern Poland, Belarus, and Polesye, a region at the Polish-Ukrainian-Belarusian border. The band plays cheerful and joyful pieces from the past. Polkas, obereks, and waltzes intertwine and blend with the rhythmic articulation typical of Polish and Belarusian music. They shine a spotlight on traditional acoustic instruments like the violin, cymbalum, three-row Polish accordion, and frame drum. This quintet reinterprets rural music in a completely unique way, with a style all their own. Come discover ancient traditions and folk music that skillfully oscillates between the past and the present.
