Zoniënklanken is a day made of walks and music in the Soignes forest. Put on your walking boots and choose your route of either 5 or 10 km. Open your ears because you will find on your way talented musicians such as Issa Ndour (Senegal), Turikumwe (Colombia), Tarek Al Sayed (Syria), Muziekpublique choro & samba ensemble (Brazil/BE) who will play for you in the enchanting surrounding of the forest. The Sonian Forest has more than 4,000 hectares of forest, five nature reserves and animals such as the Korean squirrel or fire salamander.
Issa Ndour (Senegal) not only plays the West African harp, the kora, but also the pular flute. Tarek Al Sayed studied the old Arabic lute in Aleppo (Syria). Since living in our country, he has made a big impression with projects such as Wajd ensemble or Refa ensemble, but has also appeared on stage at l’Olympia and the Lotto Arena with his former student Tamino. Turikumwe, the six-member group around the French-Belgian singer Aurore Lacrosse and the Colombian percussionist Juan Pardo, presents the lively Afro-Colombian repertoire from the Caribbean coast. Finally, the Muziekpublique Choro & Samba & Ensemble will play in the garden of Wabo, led by the Brazilian double bassist Everton Firmeza. Choro is urban folk music that originated in Rio de Janeiro with virtuoso improvisations and infectious counter-rhythms. Samba also has its origins in Rio de Janeiro and is the product of the African rhythms that the African slaves brought with them. Samba is very percussive music that is played on festive occasions such as carnival.
