Come and discover body percussion during this workshop by Leela Petronio!
LeeLa Petronio is an internationally acclaimed dancer who has developed an original approach to tap dance by fusing it with body percussion and hip hop dance. With LeeLa, the labels between expressions are erased to make way for a global percussive expression of the body. An immersion in the world of rhythm to explore different facets of the body’s rhythmicity through the prism of multidisciplinarity and rhythm as an essential link between dance and music. Inspired by world music, jazz, groove and her decisive encounter with hip hop dance and STOMP, she is developing work that combines rhythm, movement and musicality. The aim is to acquire the fundamental bases of body percussion, explore and identify the many techniques, experiment with different polyrhythms and put into practice a variety of styles (static approach, dance approach, use of space and rhythmic games) with technique exercises, including work on coordination and dissociation, and rhythmic solfeggio scales played with the body.
In this workshop, you will learn to acquire the fundamental bases of body percussion, to explore and identify the multiple techniques and to experiment with different polyrhythms. You will put into practice various styles of body percussion (static approach, dance approach, use of space and rhythmic games) while measuring the impact of “rhythm work” on movement. You will deepen the relationship between space and orientations, exploring listening ability, the relationship to others and the fluidity of movement.
