As part of the ‘Chora Bruxelas Festival’, a choro festival which will take place in Brussels from the 8th to the 10th December, we are proud to welcome the great mandolin-player Hamilton De Holanda.
Hamilton De Holanda is one of the top names in contemporary Brazilian music. This grand master of the ten-stringed mandolin has created his own style, thanks to a playing technique whose uniqueness is widely acknowledged. Whether playing solo or accompanied by an orchestra, in a small club or in front of a crowd, Hamilton surfs skilfully between jazz and samba. His numerous collaborations bear witness to the great agility with which he is able to inject Brazilian sounds into other areas: Wynton Marsalis, Chucho Valdés, Stefano Bollani, Richard Galliano, Chick Corea, etc. He’s visiting us as a member of a trio to present his album ‘Samba de Chico’, a tribute to one hundred years of samba and the composer Chico Buarque.
At last a festival that pays tribute to the choro! The choro is indeed more than just a musical style: it’s a way of life, an ode to sharing and a meeting place thanks to the rhythms and tunes that are all its own. The ’Chora Bruxelas’ festival’s ambition is to build links between different musicians from different countries and between different instruments such as the cavaquinho, the bandolim and the 7-stringed guitar.
