From Jerez de la Frontera, one of the cradles of flamenco, dancer Daniel Ortega’s passionate performances have helped him build a strong reputation as both dancer and choreographer. At the tender age of 18 he was selected as best flamenco dancer at the national competition in Ubrique and he also won the Cadiz competition for two successive years. Since then he has gone on to work with artistes such as Gerardo Núñez and Antonio Canales and in the dance companies of Manuel Soler, Antonio Vargas and el Guito and showed himself to be one of today’s great flamenco dancers in the prestigious series “Flamenco viene del sur”. In 1999 he received the Copa Teatro Pavon for young performers. Ortega now leads his own company which has performed to great acclaim not only in Span but also in Canada, Japan and the US.

Domingo Ortega’s performances are an exploration of the authentic power of flamenco. He will be accompanied for these two evenings in Brussels by top guitarist Adriano Lozano (who has also worked with the likes of José Merce, Miguel Poveda, Javier Ruibal, Antonio Canales and Niña Pastori), singers Sonia Berbel and Momi de Cadiz and our own Coral Vados (dance).
