Nawal is a woman of heaven and earth. A native of the Comoros Islands, of which she has become an emblematic figure, she treats us to music that is at once powerful and ethereal, reflecting the mixed acoustic elements that are her chief characteristic. She accompanies her voice on a wide variety of instruments, including the gambusi, flutes, guitar, daf and even the Zimbabwean mbira, which touches everyone’s soul with the same sweet caress, both here and everywhere else.

Upheld by her sufism, she imbues all her many creations with its spirituality. ‘Kweli’ in 2001, ‘Aman’ in 2008 et ‘Caresse de l’âme’ in 2011, her albums mirror the rhythmic and musical diversity of the Comoros. But there is also a place reserved for woman, not to mention a dimension of the sacred that squares up to obscurantism… Judging by her titles, if we listen to what is given to us to hear, Nawal is the interpreter of truth, of inner peace, of human dignity and of freedom.
