Redefining Brazilian Tradition with Global Influences
Renato Baccarat is a multifaceted artist, a musician by heart and an illustrator by training. Born in São Paulo (Brazil) and living in Brussels since the age of ten, he has shaped himself with both the culture from here and from there. Today, he composes music and creates visual art, unfolding a wide-ranging artistic vision. His “alternative” music, sung entirely in Portuguese, offers a sunny, bittersweet sound influenced by artists like Chico Buarque, Rodrigo Amarante, and Tom Zé. His work is infused with the essence of the major cities where he’s lived (São Paulo, Barcelona, Paris, and Brussels), both urban and global.
In 2021, he released the comic book Entre Chien et Loup (Between twilight and dawn). This story would later inspire one of the seven new tracks on the album he’s about to release: Falam Baixo (They Speak Softly). It’s an introspective album, telling stories of moments suspended in time, characters pausing to observe the world around them.
With a strong narrative sensitivity and a deep musical aesthetic, Renato Baccarat and producer Lucas Santtana bring a fresh new energy to traditional Brazilian music.
