Shalan Alhamwy
MABO - Lycée Maria-Boodschap - Rue de la Braie 22, 1000 Bruxelles

The violin is one of the star elements of middle eastern music. The violin gets to sing, accompany other instruments and is a key instrument in arabic orchestras.

In these classes we will approach the traditional instrumental repertoire with an original point of view, analyzing all the scales, ornaments and virtuosity elements.

Shalan has developed a method to teach Arabic violin techniques, starting from maqams, ornaments, bow tricks, trills, glissando and all the elements that make a violin sounds authentic Arabic. All being illustrated with a wide repertoire of standard oriental music from Syria, Egypt, Turkey, Irak and Lebanon. Apart from that, there will be plenty space for improvisation.

The course aims at beginning as well as advanced violinists.

You can sign up for an individual class of 30 minutes per week on Tuesdays between 17.30h and 22h. Collective classes of 1 hour are also possible for advanced students.
