Congolese Dancing
Tister stands with one leg in the rich tradition of Congolese dancing and percussions, and with the other leg in modern dance. The 450 provinces of Congo are an endless source of traditional dances and rhythms that will fascinate Congolese dancing enthusiasts. But the unique combination with modern dance is what makes Tister’s classes really original. Be prepared to dance a lot and to get immersed in Congolese rhythms with a hint of percussions. Worth exploring!
Tister Ikomo is a multi-skilled artist from Congo – in addition to being a dancer/choreographer, percussionist and singer, he also plays the balafon and the likembe. He has been the art director of several shows and coordinated several projects to promote dancing. He collaborated with Alain Platel and Fabrizio Cassol for the music and dance show “Coup Fatal”, a KVS and Ballet C de la B production, which already went on world tour. When in Congo, he has worked with many ballet groups, but also as a choreographer and as a musician with well-known bands. You can find out more about his complete biography and discover his short movies on his website: www.tisterikomo.com.
