Teaching approach

With a repertoire of Greek Rebetiko music, you will learn to play the bouzouki, the famous long neck lute that has become part of the Greek identity. However, it is also possible to learn some greek guitar or rebetiko singing.

  • Harmony,bouzouki scales,improvisation(taximi), rebetiko rhythms,tempo.
  • How to accompany a singer or yourself and playing with other musicians.
  • Variety of bouzouki techniques, from Minor Asia ’20s and “Pireotiko Rebetiko” of Markos Vamvakaris, to the great composer Vassilis Tsitsanis and the virtuoso of bouzouki Manolis Hiotis.

The students can record the lesson or keep notes.

Giannis Sarris

Giannis Sarris, singer and player of bouzouki but also of guitar, is recognized for its qualities in the game of rebetiko, musical style born in the ports at the beginning of the last century following the meeting between Turkish and Greek musicians.

Giannis started playing piano at age 8, and bouzouki with 3 strings and guitar since he was 13 years old. Around his twenties, he plays and sings professionally and has been very active since his arrival in Belgium as a bouzouki teacher and founder of the “Vinylio rebetiko band” (with guitarist Renaud Dardenne), who performed concerts on different stages. in Belgium and Holland.
